Brandon Nahale (Honolulu, Hawaii) won a three-hole play-off to qualify for the 2016 National Car Rental Aloha PGA Assistant Championship at Hoakalei Country Club against Juan Rodriquez (Kailua-Kona, Hawaii).
Brandon’s victory earns him prize money of $1,350 and he will be representing the Aloha Section PGA at 40th National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship at PGA Golf Club, Port St. Lucie, Florida on October 27th –30th 2016. The facility will be hosting its twentieth consecutive PGA Assistant Championship.
“The course conditions were tough today, but I focused on keeping it down the center all day,” said Nahale, assistant professional at Waialae Country Club. “It’s great to have National Car Rental’s support for this event. When I travel for tournaments with my family, we always use National. Their cars and rates are a great benefit for us (as a PGA Member) when I travel.”
Rodriquez, posted a final-round (75) for a tournament total of (147). He will be the first alternate should someone withdraw from the National event later in October.
As the qualifier of the Aloha Section, Nahale earned a bonus amount of $750 and as first alternate, Rodriquez earned bonus money of $400 for their finish in the tournament.
Jason Jakovac (Kapolei, Hawaii) posted the low 36-hole round today to win the Aloha Section Assistants Championship shooting (69-76=145). Because Jakovac was not eligible to advance, a playoff between Nahale and Rodriquez was needed to determine a qualifier for the National Car Rental Assistant Championship.
The 126-man field for this year’s 40th edition of the PGA Assistant Championship consists of the top-4 finishers from last year’s championship, if eligible, as well assistant’s and apprentices from a weighted average of total entries of the 41 PGA Sections.
The winner of the 40th National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship earns $9,000 out of a total purse of $100,000. The top-70 finishers and ties after the second round will make the cut.
The Aloha Section would also like to thank Hoakalei Country Club for hosting this year’s tournament.
