Lahaina,HI (August 28, 2016) – Kevin Hayashi of Hilo Municipal Golf Course fired an even par (73) to lead by one stroke after round one of the Aloha Section Senior PGA Professional Championship held August 28-29, 2016 at Kapalua’s Plantation Course. Eddie Lee of The David Leadbetter Academy at Wailea is one back (74), with Kirk Nelson of Maui Nui Golf Club, Todd O’Neal of the Kapalua Golf Academy and Lance Taketa of Hilo Municipal Golf Course all tied for third place at (77). The final round starts at 7am tomorrow Monday, August 29 at Kapalua’s Plantation Course.
A total of 17 Aloha Section PGA Professionals are vying for three spots in the 28th Senior PGA Professional National Championship November 17-20, 2016, presented by Mercedes-Benz USA at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
The Senior PGA Professional Championship brings together a field of 264 contestants representing the PGA of America’s 41 nationwide Sections, and features a total purse of $285,000. The first two rounds will be conducted on the Ryder and Wanamaker Courses. Mercedes-Benz USA is returning as a presenting sponsor.
The top 35 finishers in the national Championship earn a berth in the 78th Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid, which will be conducted in May 2017, at Trump National Golf Club – Washington, D.C., in Potomac Falls, Virginia.
